For the past weeks, Iran and Israel overtaken Iraq in Mid-Eastern news. They are fighting over nuclear designs which according to Iran will be used for the peaceful power generation. But according to Israel, iran is developing this bomb to wipe them off the world map. However, these claims are muddled since IAEA has given differing intelligence level concerning what exactly does Iran plan to do and whether they are really in the position to develop their capabilities fully. IAEA’s current head, Mohamed ElBaradei has been such a controversial figure for US and Israel claimed that he is being so lenient with the Iran’s government. This is a universal problem which all countries should be concerned of since we will all be victims in this War With Iran. All we can do as ordinary citizens is to pray that this Iran War will not happen in the future.

A constitution is a set of principles and rules which are establish in order to give power to the government and to define the relationship of it with the people under its territory. It is providing the statement of citizen’s collective ideas, government legitimacy and the structural outline of the government. In other words, it is the political plan of the government which aims for the development of the country. Without the essence of constitution, we can never identify the rights of people according to its tradition, religion and private property. With the use of constitution, we can stand the limitations of our rights and enjoy the democracy given by this constitution. We can identify and evaluate the true meaning of separation of church and state. And most specially, there will be peace because there would be abiding in the principles and laws of the constitution. Theoretically, here are the roles of the Constitution.

National ideas of expression and unity. The Constitution is a collective idea of people and aspirations, under government which calls their own. This is why Preamble is preceded in the Constitution. The Preamble itself merely collects the citizen’s ideals, aspirations and most importantly is the values.

Government’s legitimacy as symbol. The constitution is written to be able to establish the power of government to take rule. Citizens’ acceptance in giving authority to government was established under the Power of Constitution.

Government structure is in an outline manner. It could be parliamentary, federal, presidential of unitary form of government with the use of the Constitution, the details in ruling into the government which can be evaluated, analyzed its functions and most especially the limitation to power given to them. In other words, the dividing of powers among the branches of government should take place. No overlapping of powers and responsibilities.

The 1973 and 1987 Philippine Constitution emphasizes that church and state should be separated. In Articles III, Sec.5 of 1987 Constitution stated that the separation of church and state should be implemented. The state or government cannot dictate the people with regards to religion or cannot instruct them on what and which religious doctrines to believe as well as philosophies. It should be like this, the state or government cannot declare only one official religion to its entire people ruling nor prohibit the practice of other religion as long as the religion does not violate the law of the government. The government cannot also endorse only one religion and then disregard the others. The government violates the “Bill of Rights” if that would be the case. This principle of separating the church and government was seen in the Bible when Jesus Christ said “Render to Caezar the things that are Caezar’s and unto God the things that are God’s”. This principle does not tolerate the church and the state to interfere with each other. But as time passes, separation of church and state is not clear. For so many years now, the church has not been tolerating the wrong activities of the government. The church is vocal against the law of government that is being implemented during the time of late President Marcos, in the case of the Philippines. But instead, the church indulges with certain activities for the benefit of the people. The democracy risen up and the opportunity for freedom reigns. According to chief Justice Earl Warren of the US Supreme Court, the constitution must be balance and must bind together the church and the state’s sovereignty. The dignity of the government must be evaluated and not abused in order for people to respect them who yearns for good, pure intentions of Government ruling over them.
